Biden to Deliver Keynote at Opening Night of DNC

CHICAGO, Aug. 19, 2024 ~ The Democratic National Convention opens tonight at the United Center in Chicago, with much of the evening planned to honor the leadership and legacy of President Joe Biden

The President, who dropped out of the race nearly four weeks ago following concerns over his age and fitness to serve, is expected to deliver a message of unity and progress as he passes the torch of leadership to his Vice President, Democratic Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris.

(CONTINUED) Other speakers scheduled this evening include Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, UAW President Shawn Fain, and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.

As the convention’s start nears, protesters are gathering at various points throughout Downtown Chicago in the hopes of raising awareness on a variety of issues, including the Israel-Hamas conflict, immigration, abortion rights, and criminal justice reform.

Chicago police have increased their presence throughout the city to ensure the safety of both protesters and convention goers. Rolling street closures and traffic disruptions due to protests are expected.
