Duggan to Showcase Success as Part of DNC U.S. Mayors Conference Event

CHICAGO, August 19, 2024 ~ Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is set to discuss critical issues such as affordable housing, job creation, urban renewal, and more as part of a U.S. Conference of Mayors gathering Monday at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The Conference of Mayors is a unique opportunity for us to come together, regardless of political affiliation, and share strategies that work,” Duggan said today on “’JR Morning with Guy Gordon, Lloyd Jackson, and Jamie Edmonds.”

(CONTINUED) Today’s event aims to highlight the critical role cities play in shaping the future of the United States, and to promote the benefits of collaborative solutions for urban challenges, particularly the housing crisis.

If you look what’s happened in Detroit over the last 10 or 11 years … we built a billion dollars in affordable housing … $3 billion in black wealth … (and a) dramatic reduction in crime rates,” said Duggan.

Of the last 11 years, you’ve had a mayor and city council working together … I haven’t vetoed an action of the City Council in 11 years, and I think that unity has helped.”

Today’s U.S. Conference of Mayors gathering at the Marriott Marquis Chicago will offer a presentation and press conference featuring prominent American mayors, including Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, Pheonix Mayor Kate Gallego, and Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther.
