Former Detroit City Council President Saunteel Jenkins Explores Mayoral Run


DETROIT, Aug. 28, 2024 ~ Former Detroit City Council President Saunteel Jenkins is exploring a campaign to become the city’s next mayor.

Jenkins was elected to the council in 2009, later leaving in 2014 to run The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW), a nonprofit that helps people pay their utility bills. She joins current City Council President Mary Sheffield in exploring a run for mayor in 2025, though it is unclear if current Mayor Mike Duggan will run.
