WJR Attends 9/11 Meal Packing Event


DETROIT, Sept. 11, 2024 ~ Nearly 900 volunteers from the Detroit area joined together at the Wayne State University field house to pack 245,000 meals for those at risk of hunger.

The Detroit Meal Pack is one of 21 large community service projects being organized by the nonprofit organization 9/11 Day. Nationally, 30,000 people are expected to unite at 9/11 Day Meal Packs events, resulting in more than 8.5 million meals for people in need. In Detroit, the meals will be distributed by Forgotten Harvest. Economist Patrick Anderson, a 9/11 survivor and founder of Michigan Remembers, spoke at the event, and WJR Senior News Analyst Marie Osborne was the emcee.
