DETROIT, Sept. 13, 2024 ~ Local billionaire and philanthropist Dan Gilbert spoke at an event put on by the Detroit Economic Club Friday to discuss his career, life, and vision for Detroit in the future.
The Rocket Mortgage co-founder addressed hundreds in The Icon Auditorium, addressing questions about his successes as an entrepreneur and bringing the Nick Gilbert Neurofibromatosis Research Institute to the city. He told WJR‘s Paul W. Smith, “It is almost a crime that 85% of our graduates, some number like that, (from) Michigan, Michigan State, Wayne State, and others (leave the state). We put taxpayer money into these folks, parent money into these young kids, only to benefit cities like Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and L.A.“
