EAST LANSING, September 21, 2024In the team’s first loss of the season, Michigan State Football (3-1) could not overcome three second half turnovers that put Boston College (3-1) in position to ultimately take a 23-19 victory. It was the Red Bandana Game for the Eagles, honoring a person that saved 18 lives during the 9/11 attacks.

The Spartans started the game strong, leading by a touchdown at the end of the first half. A couple of long distance field goals by graduate kicker Jonathan Kim and a one-yard, tush-push touchdown from sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles helped MSU jump out in front early.

(CONTINUED) Michigan State began to lose momentum right at the beginning of the second half when sixth year kick returner Kay’Ron Lynch Adams fumbled on the BC goal-line. The green and white defense would hold the Eagles to a field goal though, as they put up a strong overall performance highlighted by some fourth down stops, a forced fumble, and a couple of sacks.

Kim continued to be reliant throughout the second half, hitting on two more field goals to bring his total to a perfect four-for-four on the evening.

Chiles would follow up on his first half interception with two more in the second, the latter coming in the final seconds with a chance to win the game. Although four receivers were injured and the conditions for the passing game were not ideal, the decision making was not sharp enough to come home with a win.

Defensive penalties were improved upon in this matchup, but the turnover bug still looms large for a Spartan offense gearing up for some highly ranked upcoming contests.

No. 3 Ohio State will be coming to East Lansing next weekend for a primetime showdown.
