DETROIT, September 30, 2024 ~ After breaking out last season on Monday Night Football, Detroit Lion running back Jahmyr Gibbs continued his strong performance on primetime, tallying two touchdowns in a 42-29 win against the Seattle Seahawks to break a six game losing streak against the West coast franchise. Lion quarterback Jared Goff also pitched in with two passing touchdowns, one receiving, and a perfect 18/18 completion rate.

The run game was working early for Detroit as running back David Montgomery punched in the first touchdown of the evening from about a foot out.

On the ensuing possession, Seahawk wide receiver D.K. Metcalf fumbled in scoring position and Lion cornerback Carlton Davis III scooped the ball up and returned it to the opposite end of the field. Gibbs took it from there, capitalizing with his first touchdown run from the three yard line.

Seattle had a first half response though with a short score from former Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III

Gibbs would continue his big day into the end of the half, scoring again on a gritty one-yard run.

The Seahawk offense had been quite stagnant throughout the first half besides for their first touchdown, but their offense opened up to the start of the second half, eventually scoring on a nine-yard catch from former Wolverine tight end A.J. Barner

Detroit’s most impressive drive of the night came in response to Seattle’s second touchdown. First, Montgomery bulldozed two defenders and took Goff’s pass 40-yards to set up a scoring opportunity. A couple of plays later, Goff flipped the ball to wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown who then faked a run play and threw it back to Goff for a seven yard touchdown.

(CONTINUED) That was probably the first passing touchdown of my entire career,” St. Brown told WJR Correspondent Nick Lundberg after the game. “It worked out perfect.”

Walker III continued his strong day into the end of the third quarter despite a stout defensive effort from Detroit in the run game, scoring his second rushing touchdown from short yardage to bring the game back to one possession.

Wide receiver Jameson Williams got in on the scoring action the very next snap after the Walker III score, taking a pass 70-yards down the sideline and jumping into the crowd to celebrate his six point play.

Walker III undoubtedly showed why he was a star in the green and white though as the fourth progressed, breaking loose for his third touchdown of the night from 21-yards out.

St. Brown put the game away midway through the final 15 minutes with a toe-tap touchdown on third and goal for his second total touchdown of the game. Safety Kerby Joseph later put the exclamation mark on the win with an interception in the Seattle end zone for his third of the season.

Detroit will get to rest up next weekend with a bye, and then head to Dallas for a rematch with the Cowboys from last year’s heartbreaking loss.
