DETROIT, October 13, 2024 ~ Behind a five touchdown effort from multiple offensive players, the Detroit Lions blew out the Cowboys in Dallas Sunday afternoon 47-9. The defense matched the offense firepower, not allowing a single touchdown on America’s Game of the Week

Almost everything went well for Detroit, highlighted by running back David Montgomery’s two touchdown runs. The one thing that casts a shadow over the massive revenge win after last year’s performance in AT&T Stadium is the gruesome leg injury to star Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. After the game, head coach Dan Campbell reported that the Defensive Player of the Year candidate suffered a broken tibia, indicating that his season is on track to be done for.

Two big play touchdowns to wide receiver Jameson Williams and tight end Sam LaPorta helped boost quarterback Jared Goff’s stats for the day to over 300 passing yards and three touchdowns. All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown also scored near the end of the game to put the nail in the coffin for the evening.

Only allowing three field goals, the Detroit defense completely eliminated any opportunities to score touchdowns with takeaways from multiple players. Safety Brian Branch specifically had a special afternoon, tallying two interceptions and forcing a fumble in the blow out.

Now that both starting edge rushers are out for lengthy periods of time, it might be possible to see general manager Brad Holmes take a look at the trade market for a star, if the money lines up. Hometown hero, former Eastern Michigan player Maxx Crosby, among others around the league on struggling teams or unstable situations could be candidates to come play for Detroit.

Sitting at 4-1 after the bye, the Lions will start their NFC North divisional play next weekend as they travel to Minnesota for a showdown with the undefeated Vikings
