DETROIT, Oct. 16, 2024 ~ Tom Barrett, Republican candidate for Michigan‘s 7th Congressional District, is facing backlash over an ad in a Black-owned newspaper.

The ad from Barrett, who is running against Democrat Curtis Hertel in a competitive district, ran in The Michigan Bulletin in Lansing and told people to vote on Nov. 6, a day after the general elections on Nov. 5. Not only has Barrett’s campaign received a cease and desist notice from Attorney General Dana Nessel, the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus has accused the campaign may have violated campaign laws. His campaign claimed it was a typo.
