EAST LANSING, December 13, 2024 ~ In this new era of college football, the transfer portal can be a great tool for teams to add to their rosters, but it can also drive team’s best players away with the possibility of a better opportunity. After a five win season in 2024, Michigan State football can expect the roster to look a lot different next year.
Notable departures from the team include fourth-year cornerback Charles Brantley, who has entered the portal three times in the past two years, and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jaron Glover. The Florida native caught 15 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns in seven games. In total, the Spartans have had 12 players enter the portal so far.
MSU has been busy on the recruiting trail though, hosting a number of top prospects on visits. Some of those names include former Northwestern offensive lineman and Fenton, Michigan native Josh Thompson, former Alabama defensive back Jahlil Hurley, and one of top running backs in the portal, former UCLA running back TJ Harden. With the news about upcoming renovations to Spartan Stadium, that could be a tactic in helping to land some of these top prospects over other Power 4 schools.

(CONTINUED) While players leave through the portal, Michigan State has also had a number of upperclassmen declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. Running back Nate Carter, linebacker Jordan Turner, and defensive end Khris Bogle are just a couple of the team’s leaders MSU has lost to the draft.
Key players including junior quarterback Aidan Chiles and sophomore wide receiver Nick Marsh have declared their intention to stay through media interviews, but if they do choose to leave, the deadline to do so is Dec. 28.
