LANSING, Dec. 17, 2024 ~ The Michigan Attorney General’s office has released the latest information on the lengthy investigation into allegations of sexual abuse within the dioceses of the Catholic Church in Michigan dating back to the 1950s.
In the latest update, 56 church officials were found to have engaged in sexual misconduct, 42 of which were in the Diocese of Lansing. Of the 56 priests or deacons, 37 are known or presumed to be dead. This is the fourth of seven reports related to clergy abuse within the Catholic dioceses in Michigan from the office of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who said criminal charges were issued in 11 cases throughout the state, resulting in nine convictions.
