MSU Basketball Handles Florida Atlantic for 10th Win

EAST LANSING, Dec. 21, 2024 ~ #20 Michigan State basketball, led by a career-high day from sophomore forward Coen Carr, took care of business against Florida Atlantic Saturday afternoon at the Breslin Center, winning 86-69. Carr’s career high 17 points pushed the Spartans to their 10th win of the season and fifth consecutive victory.

With most of the Izzone Student Section home for the holidays, energy was needed to be found on the court, and Carr was just the answer. From dunking over defenders to blocking shots into the stands, Carr’s aggressiveness propelled the green and white to a new level.

On top of his scoring outburst, he also tallied a career high eight rebounds and made the first three pointer of his college career. He made all of this difference with very high efficiency as well, shooting 7-9 from the field and making both of his attempted free throws, something he has struggled with over his career.

(CONTINUED) 11 total players entered their names into the scoring column for MSU, including double digit numbers from senior forward Frankie Fidler, redshirt freshman point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. and senior guard Jaden Akins. Fears Jr. and Akins recorded the most next to Carr, chipping in 13 a-piece along with eight assists from Fears Jr. The bench scored exactly half of the team’s total this afternoon, recording 43 across the rotation.

MSU’s three point defense held FAU to just 18%, which helped junior forward Jaxon Kohler have another dominant day on the boards. He reached a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Spartans will get another week off this month to prepare for their next game against Western Michigan in East Lansing. Tune into 760 WJR at 1:00 p.m. on Dec. 30 for live coverage.
