MICHIGAN, March 13, 2025 ~ After the U.S. Department of Education announced nearly 50% cuts in staff Wednesday, many public school officials have reacted with concerns and confusion.
“We’re really trying to get our arms around exactly what’s happening here, because a lot of what the federal Department of Education does is enforce things that have been made law by the federal government,” John Bernia, superintendent of Warren Consolidated Schools, said to WJR. “I don’t think those federal laws are necessarily going away, it’s just a matter of what is the enforcement of those laws (are) going to start to look like as you reduce the number of people at the Department of Education.“
