Detroit police officer charged in murder plot

A Detroit police officer has been charged in a murder plot. 25-year-old Elijah Lately, who’s been on the force for 4 years, is accused of knowing of a plot to kill a Highland Park man and not doing anything to stop it. The Wayne County Prosecutor has charged Lately with 2 counts of lying to an officer during a violent crime investigation. Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Latley knew of the plot to murder Brandon Rice, and was identified as a potential witness, but twice denied any involvement or knowledge of the murder. Lately has been suspended and is in jail on $400,000 bond.
