WDIV-TV, Channel 4 News caught an intense moment inside a Detroit courtroom on video Thursday
A fight broke out during the sentencing hearing for Clifford D. Thomas, 34, and Jasmine Gordon, 25. The couple was convicted Aug. 12 of crimes related to the death of Gordon’s 3-year-old daughter, Jamila, who was pronounced dead Sept. 19, not long after arriving at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit with injuries consistent with being physically abused.
“The child was deceased and appeared to have been suffering from bruises on the head and chest, which are consistent with abuse,” Detroit police said in a statement following Jamila’s death.
Gordon was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and first-degree child abuse; the jury found Thomas, who has a prior 2010 conviction for second-degree child abuse, guilty of involuntary manslaughter and resisting or obstructing a police officer. MORE
