Troy Catholic priest pleads guilty to fraud

A Catholic priest admits he stole from his congregation. Edward Belczak, who had been the pastor at St. Thomas Moore Church in Troy for nearly 30 years, today pleaded guilty to fraud in connection to embezzling $573,000 from the church coffers.

Belczak agreed to forfeit a Florida condo he bought with parish money and pay $573,000 in restitution. His sentencing will be December 1st; the sentencing guidelines call for him spending 33 to 41 months in prison.
