Delta State University suspect Shannon Lamb kills himself

UPDATE: Shannon Lamb — the suspect in two homicides, including the shooting death of an assistant professor at Delta State University — shot and killed himself as police closed in on him. Charles Bingham, the police chief of Cleveland, Mississippi, told reporters officers spotted Lamb pull over his car near Greenville and run into the woods. Soon after they heard a single gunshot and found Lamb’s body.

Ethan Schmidt has been identified as the Delta State history professor who was shot and killed at Delta State University, the Bolivar County Deputy Coroner Murray Roark tells CNN.

Police in Mississippi say Shannon Lamb, an employee at Delta State University, is a person of interest in the shooting of a professor at the school on Monday. Authorities released a photo of Lamb at a press conference but did not detail why they are calling him a person of interest or what his connection could be to the shooting victim.
