Northland Mall is in new hands. The city of Southfield has purchased the center at 8 mile and the Lodge Freeway for 2.4 million dollars. The city says they plan to demolish the property and then re-sell it to a developer. The demolition cost is pegged at 8-10 million dollars. Southfield Mayor Donald Fracassi says they did not want the vacant mall to become a blighted property.
