Flint’s advisory committee suggested the city stop using the Flint River as its water source due to high levels of lead. A panel of experts recommends that Flint rejoin the Detroit water system while a new water system is built in Genesee County, but it would cost more than a million dollars a month. Flint says it doesn’t have the money, and wants the state to pay for part of it. That means the general taxpayers would pay for a decision made by Flint to switch their source of water.
