Westland woman faces penalty box for embezzlement

An arraignment is scheduled today for a Westland woman accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the Westland Hockey Association. 45-year old, Shari Benton is scheduled to stand trial in the Wayne County Circuit Court. The hockey group initially thought that just under nine thousand dollars had turned up missing over the last couple of years. However, when the financial records were closely scrutinized, officials realized that the figure was approximately $45,500. Authorities say Benton used the money to pay personal expenses, including 8-thousand dollars on her mortgage.
