Dire news from Detroit Public Schools, the district could face insolvency as early as the spring if the legislature doesn’t approve a rescue plan. State Treasurer Nick Khouri and DPS Emergency Manager Darnell Early say the district is in deep financial trouble if lawmakers don’t approve a plan to assume $515 million in DPS debt. Governor Snyder is asking lawmakers for a 10 year $715 million aid package to create a new debt free school district and pay off operating debts owed by DPS according to the Detroit Free Press.
