Michigan House passes roads bill

Michigan Roads 3
Hours after the Senate vote on Tuesday, the Michigan House has a passed road funding package. It calls for gas tax and vehicle registration increases. The vote was 55-52.

The  plan would raise $200 million by increasing vehicle registration fees and generate $400 million by raising the gas tax starting in 2017. It would also untilize the general fund to come up with the remaining $600 million needed.

The House narrowly approved the gas tax and vehicle registration hikes from the Senate plan late last night. It passed mostly along party lines. It will now go to Governor Snyder for signature. He called it “a good and strong package” in a news conference Tuesday night.
