Charles Pugh leaves town because of embarrassment

Former Detroit City Council president Charles Pugh says he abruptly left Detroit and his job because of embarrassment. A videotaped deposition that was played Thursday during the civil trial revealed Pugh telling lawyers that he “was embarrassed” knowing that others would find out about the “horrible thing” he had done. A teenage boy, who was 17-years-old at the time he claims Pugh made sexual advances toward him, is expected to testify in the trial on Friday. The lawsuit states the now-former student was pressured to make a sex video in exchange for money. Hundreds of text messages were exchanged between Pugh and the boy, including some that were sexually explicit. Pugh has not been charged with a crime and he pleaded the 5th amendment several times during his video- testimony. The Detroit school district was named as a defendant, but agreed to a monetary settlement. Pugh moved to New York in 2013 and refuses to attend the trial.
