EPA regulations affect Michigan coal plant

The 1,000-ft. lake freighter James R. Barker, which is owned by the Interlake Steamship Company, made its last delivery of low-sulfur Western coal to Muskegon’s B.C. Cobb plant on Sunday. The plant has been receiving coal shipments for 67 years and is the only plant that requires a lake vessel to supply all the coal necessary for operations. More than employees worked at the plant that now includes only 67 on the payroll. Employees will retire or receive offers elsewhere. The plant is scheduled to close by June 2016 and demolition plans will follow.
