Garden City Council meeting choose pizza party over listening to residents

Garden city Mayor Randy Walker is getting an ear full after he says he didn’t allow residents who lost their homes to address the city council meeting Monday night. The mayor and council members walked out of a meeting without taking public comments from seven homeowners facing eviction because Walker said the session’s main purpose was to swear in new officials. He said those meetings don’t usually allow for public comments and a pizza party was already planned to follow the meeting. An attorney for the homeowners said he plans to file a complaint to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office alleging a violation of the state’s Open Meetings Act.
