Friday is a big day for the fate of national labor contracts between the UAW and Ford, and at GM. For Ford’s deal with the UAW, it is the last day to vote. Union workers at the Chicago plant are the latest to vote against the contract. The Flat Rock Assembly plant voted in favor of the agreement. The UAW is hoping Dearborn plant workers to vote yes. UAW officers say it’s a good contract.
The UAW GM council meets Friday in Detroit. A majority of GM workers voted yes, but skilled trades rejected it and that’s holding it up. The national union officers have the authority to override the skilled trades units and put the contract into effect.
