Washington Post journalist sentenced by Iranian court for spying

Jason Rezaian

Iranian news agency Tasnim reported on Sunday that an Iranian court sentenced Washington Post journalist Jason Resaian to prison for spying. According to a judiciary spokesman, neither Resaian nor his lawyer has received the official verdict and therefore additional details for sentencing are not being released. Rezaian has been held in Iran since July 2014. Foreign editor for Tasmin, Douglas Jehl, told CNN reporters “Iran has not produced any evidence of wrongdoing.” The U.S. State Department called for Rezaian’s release.
