Former baseball coach embezzles school’s fundraiser

baseball

Former Flint-area high school teacher and baseball coach, Timothy Phipps, is due in court Wednesday to face embezzlement charges. Phipps is charged with making off with thousands of dollars from charity poker games that were promoted as fundraisers for the Kearsley schools in Flint. Authorities say Phipps forged the signatures of school officials to obtain licenses to run casino-style games in 2012 and 2013. Investigators say Phipps kept nearly $17,000 of the money that should have gone to the schools.
