Jim Caldwell: Lions’ loss on Rodgers-to-Rodgers Hail Mary ‘heart-wrenching’

The Detroit Lions paid the ultimate price for one more play. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers found Richard Rodgers with a Hail Mary with no time left on the clock to beat Detroit, 27-23, on Thursday night.

“It’s heart-wrenching when those happen at the end of the game that way,” Lions coach Caldwell said during a postgame radio interview. “This time, it was their turn. Just a heck of a play. We just didn’t come up with the play we needed.”

The Lions won in Green Bay earlier this month when Mason Crosby missed a field goal as time expired.

Tonight, the Packers never led until the game was over, didn’t even score in the first half, and got the ball back with only 23 seconds remaining. Then, Rodgers to Rodgers happened, but only after a facemask penalty on Detroit’s Devin Taylor.
