Jackson deputies give presents instead of tickets

Christmas present

There’s never a good time to get pulled over and ticketed, and the holiday season is no exception.  That’s why the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department wasn’t handing out tickets when they pulled some drivers over this past week. Instead, they handed out gifts! Coordinated efforts between American 1 Credit Union, Meijer, and the sheriff’s office allowed the deputies to give out $5,000 worth of presents during traffic stops.

The traffic trap took place in the area of East Michigan Avenue and Airport Road throughout the week. To give the most appropriate gift, the deputies talked with the drivers about their Christmas list. While they were talking, employees at American 1 shopped as the deputies waited for the gifts to arrive. Among the items handed out included gift cards, HD TV’s and video game consoles. The drivers expressed their gratitude, some with hugs.
