Blackboard Flu Is Back

More Detroit teachers are calling in sick this morning. The Bates Academy is closed again today due to teacher absences.

Bates was one of seven Detroit schools that were closed yesterday due to a teachers sickout protesting the state takeover of the district, the number of charter schools, and what the teachers say is underfunding.

Many protesting teachers are supporters of Steve Conn, a teacher and community organizer who was ousted as president of the Detroit Federation of Teachers.
