Waterford Police shopping 2waterford police_shopping 3The Waterford Township Police Department, in collaboration with Meijer and the Waterford Coalition for Youth was able to make the 27th year of “Shop with a Hero” another great success for 96 children in need on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Through the generous donations from the Waterford Meijer, Suburban Ford of Waterford, Waterford Optimist Club, Waterford Historical Society, Waterford Senior Center Creative Quilters and Waterford area citizens, 96 students from the Waterford School District were given the opportunity to shop with an Officer, Dispatcher, Police Chaplain or a member from the Volunteers In Police Services. From the donations, each student was provided a $100 gift card to shop for themselves and their family for Christmas. The Waterford Meijer Store also donated an additional $500 to each of the 13 individual schools in the Waterford District. The Waterford Jets Pizza on Elizabeth Lake Rd helped top the event off by donating free pizzas to all the kids, volunteers and Santa. Also helping make the program a success were countless volunteers from the Waterford Coalition for Youth, the Waterford School District and Santa. Each year the Police Department adopts local families who are in need. This was the 27th year for the Waterford Township Police Department and the 11th year having a partnership with Meijer. All participating organizations and volunteers were excited about the opportunity to make the holidays brighter for the kids and their families“
