Michigan will continue straight-party absentee voting system

Voting

The Michigan Legislature voted along party lines to eliminate straight-party voting and removed an amendment that would have allowed no-reason absentee voting: republicans are for it and democrats against. Straight-party ticket voting allows voters to fill in one circle on the ballot and vote for all the democrats or all the republicans on the ballot. The current system is considered a benefit to democrats, with voters rejected a change to straight-party ticketing twice.
