One of the tallest buildings in Flint is being given to the University of Michigan Flint campus: The 15-story riverfront residence hall, originally the Hyatt Regency Flint, is downtown on the Flint river walk. An uptown reinvestment corporation renovated the building with money from the Mott Foundation, which controls the building, and Mott is giving it to UofM Flint. The university bought the First Merit Bank building next door earlier this fall. The riverfront residence hall, along with the First Merit building, makes UofM Flint a major force in revitalizing Downtown Flint. The new residence hall building will be used for new student housing, conferences, and possibly classroom and offices.
