In the wake of the San Bernardino terrorist attack earlier this month, correspondent Jim Roope reports the City of Pasadena has partnered with the FBI, Homeland Security, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to provide unprecedented security for this year’s Tournament of Roses Parade. Parade officials always provide security for the Rose Parade, but in the 127 years of the parade, there hasn’t been this much. Pasadena Police Chief Philip Sanchez says this year’s Rose Parade will have the heaviest police presence in history with dozens of bomb dog teams, uniformed and undercover officers along the roughly five-mile route, new all-terrain vehicles and as Homeland Security. Agent Mark Shelby say, “We’re talking portable surveillance cameras in addition to the fixed cameras, license plate readers, explosive and radiation detection devices and more.” Chief Sanchez says there will be a no-tolerance policy when it comes to drones. Other leave-at-home items will include umbrellas, even though the current El Nino system could bring rain on New Year’s Day, and so-called selfie sticks. The Chief says this year, more than ever, the police are relying on the eyes and ears of the public and all parade goers to report to officials if the see or hear anything suspicious.
