Fort Street Bridge reopens

Fort Street Bridge

Without much fanfare, despite its 2 ½-year closure, the Fort Street Bridge reopened on New Year’s Day. The bridge, located at Fort Street and Woodmere, was closed for construction in 2013, with the Michigan Department of Transportation announcing at the time that they expected the bridge to reopen within a year. As fate took over, problems arose and construction took longer than expected. Local businesses took large financial losses because of the closure but they are reporting increased business in just the two days the bridge has been opened.
