A nurse at the Martha T. Berry Medical Center in Macomb County is accused of stealing narcotic medications from the facility. Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham says officials at Berry discovered medications were missing during a routine inventory check. Officials say evidence leads to 53-year-old Karen Spearman taking morphine from vials on her medical cart, then taking the drugs from the facility. After taking the morphine from the vials, Spearman filled the vials with water to disguise the theft. After requesting she take a drug test, Spearman left the building and struck another employee with her vehicle as she was fleeing the scene. The person she struck was not injured. Spearman has been arraigned on four counts and faces eight years in prison if convicted.
