Michigan bans Palcohol sales

Palcohol

Powdered alcohol, known as Palcohol, has been banned in Michigan even though it was never introduced in the state market. Supporters say the ban was necessary to prevent people, especially under-aged drinkers, from obtaining the product that can be easily disguised and mixed with water to increase potency. The product has been marketed elsewhere with flavors such as lemon drop. Grand Ledge Senator Rick Jones introduced the bill to ban the product, saying the possibilities of abuse from the powdered alcohol are too high. The Palcohol website lists objections to ban, which include an increased demand for the product, prompting underage drinkers to want it more: “We want what we cannot have.” Additionally, the ban will necessitate the expenditure of tax dollars for implementation. Nonetheless, the ban passed in Michigan and multiple other states are considering a ban on Palcohol sales.
