MLK scheduled events in the Detroit area

MLK Day

Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, located at 315 Warren in Detroit, is hosting a commemorative breakfast and fundraisers beginning at 7 a.m. Activities are then planned for children and adults through 6 p.m.

Archdiocese of Detroit is offering mass at Most Blessed Sacrament Church on 9844 Woodward in Detroit at 10 a.m., followed by a reception.

Detroit Martin Luther King Jr. High School is putting on a 1.5-mile walk at 11 a.m. King High is on Detroit’s east side on Lafayette Avenue.

Focus-hope employees are involved in a day of volunteer service across the city.

The City of Southfield has its annual Peace Walk. It starts at 9 a.m. at the Hope Methodist Church and extends to the Southfield Civic Center for events.

Henry Ford Museum is offering the Story of Rosa Parks, music, and crafts from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Keeper of the Dream event will be at the Oakland Center on the campus of Oakland University, featuring actor Levar Burton. He’ll talk about a remake of the series ‘Roots’. Burton was a star in the original series.

Cobo Hall is sponsoring “Beyond the Dream” in the Atrium at 5 p.m.
