Clarkston credit union embezzler scheduled for probable cause hearing

Michael LaJoice

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Wednesday for 36-year-old Michael LaJoice. He is accused of embezzling about $20-million dollars from a Clarkston credit union over a 12-year period. LaJoice actually turned himself in to surprised officers. Police say they believe he acted because an audit finally uncovered discrepancies. Officials are still trying to determine exactly how he managed to take so much money over such a long period of time without being detected. The state has taken control of the credit union in a move that officials say is designed to protect the membership.
