CNN reports eight employees from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo are charged with negligence after a “botched reattachment” of King Tutankhamen’s beard was found on his mask. A museum conservator reports the beard was detached when the mask accidentally fell during a cleaning. When the beard was reattached with glue, a gap formed between the face and the beard. Other people contend the beard loosened with age. Prosecutors say eight people will be charged with negligence, including six restorers and two former heads of the restoration section. The trial date has not been scheduled. The Administrative Prosecution told Ahram Online on Saturday that the damaged artifact is 3,300-years-old.
