A preliminary exam is scheduled for Monday for the 18-year-old Detroit man, Darian Winfield, who is accused of attacking a Grosse Pointe Park woman while she was walking on Cadieux on December 13th. The woman survived being stabbed in the face, neck, and upper chest. Winfield is also scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in a similar case. He is charged with breaking into a 39-yearold Detroit woman’s house on Radnor on Detroit’s east side on December 30th and stabbing her during an attempted rape: she was stabbed in the chest, but also survived her wounds. Her attacker fled when the woman was able to grab her taser and use in on him. Police say Winfield is also a suspect in other sexual assaults on Detroit’s east side, including the murder of a 17-year-old girl.

A former Detroit high school principal due in Detroit Federal Court on Monday. Kenyetta Wilbourn Snapp is the former principal of Mumford and Denby High Schools. She, along with Glynis Thornton, an ex-contractor for the education achievement authority, and independent contractor Paulette horton, have been charged with federal bribery and money laundering. All three have been working on plea deals. Snapp is expected to enter a guilty plea at Monday’s hearing. Thorton’s plea hearing is scheduled for Wednesday and Horton’s on February 25th.

The trial will resume for a St. Clair County man, James McCallis, for the murder of a 14-year-old girl, April Millsap. VanCallis’ ex-girlfried gave incrimination testimony on VanCallis to the jury last week.

A preliminary examination is scheduled to resume Monday for two men charged in the shooting death of local musician Anthony Tolson. Tolson was shot and killed during a carjacking on Christmas Eve. Eighteen-year-old Darnell Young and 35-year-old Charles Cox have been charged with first degree murder. Testimony last week indicated they wanted to take Tolson’s SUV because they thought they could sell its tires for $1,800. During Friday’s testimony both defendants were removed from the courtroom after one of them was caught on camera mouthing what the judge thought might be a threat to a witness on the stand.

A second suspect has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a Detroit mother. Forty-year-old Erica Garner was picking up her 11-year-old son from basket ball practice last Wednesday evening near 8 Mile and Ryan. Police say it appears she was shot in an attempted car jacking. Seventeen-year-old Ralph Marshall was arrested shortly after the shooting at a nearby bus station. Monday, police say they arrested 18-year-old Rayvon Smith. Both are facing multiple charges including murder and carjacking.
