The federal government is filing criminal charges against a Novi business owner in the deaths of five Mexican men who worked for him. Roger Tam, who owns Kim’s Garden in Novi, is charged with hiring and harboring unlawful immigrants. Authorities say he employed the five undocumented immigrants from Mexico who died in a fire that started in the basement of his house where they were living.
Tam’s wife, Ada Lei, is also also faces charges. The offense carries a 10-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine.
