Salvation Army Bed & Bread Radiothon raises over a million dollars! Thanks for donating!

Thanks to you we raised $1,008,086 for the Salvation Army Bed and Bread program!

The 16-hour Radiothon is the primary source of funding for the nonprofit’s Bed & Bread program. WJR’s on-air personalities Paul W. Smith, Frank Beckmann, Steve Courtney, Big Al, Ed Kelly and Mitch Albom broadcasted alongside Bed & Bread Club Chairman and retired Detroit radio personality Dick Purtan with WJR News’ Ken Rogulski reporting in all day from the Bed & Bread Truck delivery route.

The Bed & Bread program serves more than 4,200 meals on the trucks in Detroit, as well as corps community centers throughout metro Detroit. That’s more than 1.5 million meals annually.  The Salvation Army Bed & Bread trucks recently expanded its daily routes to include new underserved areas in southwest Detroit and River Rouge.  The program also provides shelter to more than 500 people every night. That’s more than 183,000 nights of shelter annually.

Supporters can make a real difference for hungry and homeless metro Detroiters in need by becoming members of the Bed & Bread Club for just $10 a month.  At $120 per year, Bed & Bread Club members are providing nearly one month of meals to five people.
