Red Wings 3, Lightning 0: Petr Mrazek bounces back strong as Detroit turns in best effort of series

wings_TB_3DETROIT – A change of scenery in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal playoff series brought about a much-needed change in the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings skated much better, spent more time in the offensive zone, were much more effective on the forecheck and a lot more physical. They were perfect on the penalty kill and didn’t experience costly defensive breakdowns.

Petr Mrazek bounced back strong, making 22 saves Tuesday to lead the Red Wings past the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-0 at Game 3 at Joe Louis Arena.

Detroit takes a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 Thursday at the Joe.

Pavel Datsyuk, Riley Sheahan and Luke Glendening scored the goals.

Justin Abdelkader returned after missing six games with a hand injury and made his presence felt. He set up Sheahan’s goal and roughed up Cedric Paquette after the Lightning forward tripped Mrazek in the third period.
