Lightning 3, Red Wings 2 (OT): Tampa Bay rallies late and ties series on Tyler Johnson’s goal

wings lose OTDETROIT – Losing Luke Glendening had dire consequences for the Detroit Red Wings Thursday in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal playoff series. Tyler Johnson scored 2:25 of overtime to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-2 victory at Joe Louis Arena. The series is tied 2-2 heading into Game 5 at Amalie Arena on Saturday.

Johnson netted the winner by converting a pass from Victor Hedman during a three-on-one break. The Red Wings, behind a tight defense and Petr Mrazek’s strong goaltending, appeared in good shape, leading 2-0 with less than six minutes to play in the third period.

But Glendening, their gritty fourth-line center, left the game with 7:28 to play after roughing it up with Hedman. The Lightning struck fast to tie the game, scoring twice in 1:17 in the final six minutes of regulation.

Johnson scored at 14:34. He took a pass from Anton Stralman in the neutral zone and used a burst of speed to skate around Darren Helm, himself one of the fastest players in the league, and beat Mrazek on the short side. MORE
