Niklas Kronwall disagrees with league’s rationale for ban; Red Wings upset similar hits not punished

TAMPA, Fla. – Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock is looking forward to grabbing a bite to eat in Montreal this weekend.

“There’s a deli called Schwartz in Montreal that I’m dying to have a sandwich from,” Babcock said this morning.

Before Babcock can satisfy his craving, his team must overcome the loss of its best defenseman, Niklas Kronwall, who was suspended for Game 7 tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning for “charging” Nikita Kucherov the previous game.

Kronwall skated this morning at Amalie Arena in preparation for a possible Game 1 Friday at Montreal in the second round. He’s obviously disappointed the NHL’s decision, which he said he still hasn’t fully grasped. He saw the play differently than how the league viewed it.

“I disagree with the decision,” Kronwall said. “I feel like it happened a little bit different way than what they feel, but that’s how it is. I did something that put them in a situation where they can make the final call.”
