Aspiring model from Detroit convicted in Georgia store clerk killing

DETROIT, MI — An aspiring model from Detroit was convicted last week in the killing of a 37-year-old Georgia store clerk.

A Georgia jury found 22-year-old Skylar Mims guilty on 11 counts including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, burglary and other charges, according to reports from the Dalton Daily Citizen.

Mims, an aspiring model, actress and musician from Detroit was accused of stabbing to death convenience store clerk Dahyabhai Chaudhari before fleeing with dozens of lottery tickets and cash in March 2014.

Defense lawyers claimed she was set up by a house mate with whom she lived. But prosecutors presented physical evidence including DNA and a cellphone belonging to Mims recovered at the scene, according to the the Dalton Daily Citizen.

Evidence linking Mims to a stolen vehicle found across the street from the store was also presented at trial.
