MSU Football Adds New Players From Transfer Portal

EAST LANSING, Dec. 20, 2024 ~ Michigan State football has been busy on the recruiting trail recently, landing a number of transfer portal commitments. These additions will help ease the transition into next season after losing a couple of starters since players could start transferring on Dec. 9.

So far, MSU has lost 12 players to the portal, not including those who have entered the NFL Draft or those who are out of eligibility. In the past week-and-a-half, the staff has been working hard to bring in eight guys to help replace those who split town.

Wide receiver was an area of need for the Spartans coming into the offseason, and head coach Jonathan Smith has quickly addressed the issue, adding two players in junior Middle Tennessee transfer Omari Kelly and redshirt sophomore Kent State transfer Chrishon McCray. McCray finished last season with nine receiving touchdowns while Kelly made the All-Conference USA 1st Team

MSU also brought in some talent to help in the trenches, adding two inside offensive lineman and defensive tackle Grady Kelly from Florida State.

(CONTINUED) Cornerback Charles Brantley has been arguably the biggest loss to the portal, but the green and white have done a solid job supplementing the secondary so far. The team has signed two corners to this point in Texas State transfer Joshua Eaton and former Eastern Illinois defensive back Nijhay Burt

Smith also needed to address the running back room with the departure of Nate Carter to the NFL Draft, so they went and picked up Sacramento State transfer Elijah Tau-Tolliver. The All-Big Sky running back finished 2024 with 950 rush yards and nine total touchdowns.

MSU will have until Dec. 28 to continue adding pieces to the roster.
